VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The Afya warehouse is one of the few organizations in our community that provides structured volunteer programs for individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities. Women, men and children from these groups are often marginalized in our community. Our goal is to use the Afya warehouse and our active volunteer program to empower these volunteers and to help them engage with our global Afya community.

Danielle’s organization has helped people suffering from mental illness learn essential job skills, gain confidence and find meaning and purpose.

Susan Swain, D.N.P., R.N., Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Mount Sinai Hospital

By volunteering at the Afya warehouse and working with our Occupational Therapy interns, individuals from these groups develop confidence, become more independent and learn vocational skills that are useful for a range of jobs. Each week we host 21 volunteer groups from 8 different agencies that serve individuals with mental and physical disabilities in New York City and Westchester.
