SORT: COMMUNITY IMPACT
Hundreds of volunteers, including children and those with physical, intellectual or psychiatric disabilities, spend hours sorting, cataloging and packing recovered medical supplies from AFYA’s 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Yonkers, NY.
Community Based Services (CBS) of Brewster, NY is dedicated to providing individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities the best possible quality of life through residential and community-based opportunities.
As one such community organization, AFYA is grateful for the enthusiastic and engaged volunteers from CBS who have been an important part of the AFYAfamily for many years. The partnership is a win-win. Not only does AFYA benefit from the willing hands of these volunteers as they help sort and pack donated medical supplies — the individuals with developmental disabilities find a welcome opportunity to socialize, acquire vocational skills and actively contribute to an important global health mission.
Afya is committed to the local community, partnering with a dozen or so other community-based organizations (like CBS) and schools in Westchester and New York City. A notable opportunity for these special needs volunteers – one that is unique to AFYA – is that they work alongside Occupational Therapy (OT) interns. The OT interns supplement their field work with AFYA while supporting the various volunteers who contribute to AFYA’s life-saving mission.
Thank you to CBS for the hours of volunteer service you commit to helping us sort and deliver millions of pounds of medical supplies.
