Federal funding cuts are destabilizing healthcare systems around the globe and in the U.S. As these challenges grow, Afya is stepping up to fill the gaps and ensure access to healthcare for vulnerable communities.
With declining federal support for international health programs and Federally Qualified Health Centers, our role is more critical than ever. Afya is reinforcing our Community Safety Net project in NYC and Westchester, ensuring that local communities continue to receive quality care. Through our 100% New York: Supplies for Life initiative with the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), we connect nearly 40 hospitals with global partners in urgent need, including providers, governments, and organizations in Ghana, Tanzania, Ukraine, and the Caribbean. We are developing a replaceable model for sustainable healthcare country-wide, positioning our city as a leader in medical supply recovery and partner in equitable global health progress.
Since 2008, Afya has been a trusted partner in delivering surplus medical supplies to communities in crisis. We’ve reached 90 countries with over 50M worth of supplies like infant incubators, wound care kits, hospital beds, and wheelchairs. By recovering and redistributing essential medical supplies, we strengthen healthcare systems while reducing waste.
Afya’s impact is clear: we rescue surplus medical supplies, match them to the precise needs of under-resourced health systems, and mobilize thousands of volunteers to ensure life-saving care reaches those who need it most. Our work directly supports disaster response, strengthens healthcare systems, and addresses emergency medical needs worldwide.
