Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a State of Emergency for New York State ahead of an extreme winter storm and dangerously cold temperatures forecast to impact communities this weekend. It poses serious risks to health and safety, particularly for New Yorkers who are unsheltered or vulnerable.
Afya Is Prepared to Help
Afya is a New York-headquartered disaster response organization with an 18-year track record of preparing and responding to natural disasters. We equip frontline organizations and providers with the medical and humanitarian supplies they need. We have established relationships with 175 organizations serving New Yorkers. With this winter storm approaching, we are fully mobilized and ready to support shelters, community organizations, health facilities, and other partners in meeting the needs of those most impacted.
As during Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Ida, we stand prepared to provide critical supplies, including:
- Warming packets and fleece jackets
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and masks
- Medical supplies and wound care essentials
- Mobility devices, including wheelchairs, walkers, and canes
- Adult diapers
Our priority is to ensure individuals, especially people experiencing homelessness, older adults, and medically fragile individuals, are cared for throughout this harsh weather event.
If your organization, facility, or partners require emergency supplies, please get in touch with us.
