Care For Indigenous Elders
Native Americans have the highest rate of COVID-19 infection in the U.S. Already facing severe health disparities prior to the pandemic, the Coronavirus Crisis promises to widen the gap.
Native American elders, vital keepers of their culture, deserve help now more than ever.
Afya is collaborating with local organizations to launch a multi-state and multi-sector response to reach elders in four tribes across five states. We will be serving the Navajo Nation in Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico, the Oglala Lakota Tribal Council in South Dakota, the Yurok Tribe in California, and the Apache Reservation in Arizona.
Our partner organizations are:
- Lakota Children’s Enrichment
- Adopt a Native Elder
- CORE Response
- Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health
Each organization will receive a range of requested and customized health and medical supplies and critical PPE to protect against COVID-19.
Your donation will enable Afya to provide vital PPE such as masks, gloves, and gowns for community workers serving elders and critical medical supplies such as walkers and canes that elders need.
