On August 26, 2026, a catastrophic glacier-related slope failure in Langtang National Park triggered a massive debris flow and flash flood that traveled roughly 100 kilometers through Nepal and into Tibet. As of August 31, at least 955 people have died and 4,471 remain missing across both countries, including hundreds of workers believed to be trapped inside damaged hydropower project tunnels. Roads and critical infrastructure have been destroyed, and continued landslides and unstable terrain are complicating access to affected communities right when they need it most.

WHAT’S NEEDED
Health facilities across the affected districts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces have sustained significant damage, with preliminary field assessments pointing to even greater losses than currently reflected in published reports. Approximately 10,000 households require immediate relief, and health needs are increasingly shifting toward medical supplies and equipment, medicines, trained personnel, and replenishment of damaged health services, including fluid warmers, used to warm IV fluids and blood products and help prevent patient hypothermia during treatment.
Afya’s response is locally led, coordinated with the Chaudhary Foundation and local partners on the ground in Nepal, ensuring every shipment is matched to verified, on-the-ground needs.
Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, among the hardest-hit areas, remain a priority as medical teams work village-to-village to deliver emergency care wherever access allows.
