Your Support Is Helping Afya Respond To The Earthquake In Colombia

On August 10, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia. As of August 18, 280 people have died, more than 4,000 injured, and 143 still missing. Colombia has declared a National Disaster, and hundreds of health facilities have been damaged, right when communities need them most.

Urgently needed medical supplies and equipment are being mobilized to support the healthcare workers responding on the front lines. Your support helps make that possible.

WHAT’S NEEDED

Facilities across the affected region are facing shortages of wound-care, IV and vascular-access, respiratory, trauma, and immobilization supplies. As recovery continues, patients will also need wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and other rehabilitation equipment.

Afya’s response is locally led, coordinated with ProPacífico, Fundación Valle del Lili (FVL), and territorial health authorities, ensuring every shipment is matched to verified, on-the-ground needs.

Buenaventura, one of the hardest-hit areas, is a priority destination, with its port operational and offering a direct route into Colombia’s Pacific region.
