100% New York- Supplies for Life

“We envision New York City to become the first city in the U.S. to reroute surplus and unused medical supplies via Afya to underserved populations worldwide. Afya is the bridge between New York City and the world,”
states Danielle Butin, Afya Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Coalition Overview

In partnership with the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), Afya launched a groundbreaking initiative to collect unused medical supplies from approximately 40 hospitals across New York City. These essential resources will be delivered to physicians, health clinics, and community-based humanitarian organizations in need.

Since 2008, Afya delivered 13 million pounds of medical supplies, valued over $63 million, to health care delivery partners and community service organizations in the US and abroad. We ship unused medical supplies to people who need them the most worldwide, filling a major gap in the global medical supply chain and responding to urgent humanitarian needs. Afya responds to natural and man-made disasters and works with partners in chronically under-resourced healthcare systems. Due to the generosity and foresight of our hospital partners, who donate supplies to Afya on an ongoing basis, we are saving lives and offering a sustainable solution for the city. While our shared achievements to date are significant, there is a great deal more that is possible. Working with the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), Afya is expanding the participation in this important work to over 30 new hospital partners.

Why This Matters:

  • Local and Global Impact: Our coalition will deliver critical supplies to communities in need, both in New York and across the world, improving healthcare access and outcomes for millions of individuals.
  • Sustainability: By rescuing surplus medical supplies, we are not only improving health outcomes—we are also making strides toward protecting our environment by significantly reducing medical waste.
  • Life-Saving Support: From bandages and surgical tools to durable medical equipment, the supplies we rescue will ensure that no life is left behind due to a lack of resources.
