Hurricane Season

Afya is preparing and responding to what is projected to be a challenging hurricane season. We are currently providing support to Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines following the destruction and loss of life caused by Hurricane Beryl.

As an organization with deep expertise, Afya can respond and remain on the ground to provide enduring support. Afya has well-established partnerships with governments and local organizations throughout the Caribbean that help ensure rapid and effective responses when hurricanes strike. Every shipment is tailored to the expressed needs of practitioners on the ground.

As Hurricanes become more frequent and intense, the question is not if they will strike but when – and how we can mitigate the effects related to human suffering. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted that this year’s hurricane season would be “above average” with four to seven major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher.

ACTIVE RESPONSE: BERYL

Afya continues to respond to the healthcare needs of people whose lives were torn apart by Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall in the Caribbean as a Category 4 storm. The storm roared through islands with 150 mph violent winds, intense rainfall, and a life-threatening storm surge.
